Homework #6 Part 1 (Movie Plot for Project)

Within the Abyss

The ethereal realm is on the brink of collapse due to the influx of ghosts overcrowding the area. The reason they cannot move on is due to the grudge and regret they have had in their previous lives, their violent behavior if they were evil in those past lives, or an unpaid debt keeping them bound to the ethereal realm. Some of the ghosts have seeped into the physical world, and if this keeps up, both versions of the world will collapse in on each other due to both worlds cancelling each other out if they interact too much. The only person who can reconcile with the dead is a 23-year old college student named Ian.
Ian was born with the ability to sense spirits, but never learned to hone his ESP ability. In fact, most people call him a schizophrenic or delusional, so he lived his life dismissing his abilities. He lives a bland and broken life: he suffers from an alcohol addiction, is unemployed, and tends not to have many friends to relate with. His parents pay for his classes, but they threaten that if he doesn't get his life together, find a job, and move out by the end of the year, they will quit providing him money. One weekend, he rummages through his attic in search for something valueable to sell in order to pay for his tab at the bar. He eventually comes across a sword, which he remembers is a gift from his late great-grandfather, but looks to have not been unsheathed in 90 years. He removes the scabbard to check the condition of the sword, but is instantly taken to the etheral realm. He is overwhelmed by the spirits that approach him, sheaths the blade, and decides to ignore this problem. The spirits beckon him to help with the situation between the spirit world and the physical world. Soon, he gives in and embraces his abilities and accepts his mission.

Dustin Stanton Interview Response

There's a lot to break down with this article. First off, an internship at a local place relative to one's major is a good thing to consider, especially for an art major. It gives a person hands on experience on the functionality and aesthetics of the interconnected workings of design. It also allows for the development of a wider network of a career. In the case of Mr. Stanton, he not only understanding how a movie poster should be designed, but he also formed lasting relationships, particularly with Paul Anderson, and was hired by PTA. I suppose one's success depends on the amount of contacts one has. The real heart of the matter in this article was Mr. Stanton's creative process. I always thought a lot of the images in a movie poster was hand drawn. However, it's mostly going out and finding ordinary objects and using them for symbolic purposes. Another aspect to look at is not being rash and taking a break if something does not seem to fit, such as Mr. Stanton...
